c.1947 Londontoy, No.53 Shell Oil Tanker Truck in Original Box
Gorgeous 6" long die cast metal enamel painted Shell Oil Tanker Truck manufactured by Londontoy, London, Ontario, Canada. Rare clockwork version. Appears to be unused store stock in never-played-with condition. Comes complete with rare original box. Londontoy produced only a few die cast vehicles from 1945-1950. Unlike this example most did not motors or brand advertising. For these reasons alone this Shell tanker is a scarce find. The complex gear mechanism is in fine condition and works great to turn the front axle. Presence of the original paint on the top part of the spring (1st photo) is a pretty good indication that it was never played with (too much tightening of the spring could cause the delicate over spray to flake). The paint is all original without any touch-up. For sake of accuracy it has a tiny fleck on the right door, right front bumper end, and left front fender. A tiny factory missed spot can barely be seen on the front windshield divider. The original box shows a terrific perspective graphic of the tanker from the front. Printed in orange, yellow, and black the words "mechanical" and "Shell" appear on every panel. Sold: Apr. 2013
